COVID-19 Shows We Need More Urban Density—Not Less

Well-designed density would go a long way toward aiding our most vulnerable communities.

Getting to like Obsidian.md a lot, even though in beta. First time in 4 years I think this (in combination with Zotero) is a potential way out of Evernote for me.

Pretty impressed with Obsidian.md, an app in which the data is mine, the app is a view on the data, and the interface has queries on that data as panes, as per zylstra.org/blog/2018/07/decen

Are people here familiar with Unsplash.com?

They started off publishing a photolibrary with Creative Commons Zero licencing.

Then in 2017 they revoked the lot, and applied the “Unsplash Licence” which is incompatible with any Creative Commons licence.

I really am appalled.

Does anyone know where the Joplin notes app stores notes by default? Which folder/database on HD?

Remembering Colin Morley, who died at Edgware Road 15 years ago today, one of the victims of the 7-7 terrorist bombings. Wish we had more time, my friend. #Medinge

Nicholas Carr wrote a blog post well worth a read last January, positing the impact of social media is content collapse, not context collapse. Indeed when we all started out on social software the phrase context collapse was on our lips.

Since 2016 Carr sees context restoration however, a movement away from public FB posts to private accounts, chat groups, and places where content self-de

"I also got a bad taste in my mouth from Twitter supporting kinds of speech that I don't particularly agree with, and I began to feel like putting my toys and art there was just adding value to the network. For a while I felt that the tradeoff was that the art I published there still enriched my life and the lives of my friends. At some point, though, I started to feel like the balance got out of whack, and I could do more good by putting my work on alternate networks and giving people a reason to get off Twitter. "

All cultural producers with some degree of audience and influence should really think about this: what structures do I validate by my presence? What and whose structures do I reinforce? What other places can I advantage?

One thing I hate most are links to sources in newsletters, which

- are proxied through some url with identifiers
- and are not marked where this link leads to

If someone e.g. does not want to visit instagram, this person needs to visit the link to know where it leads to.

Oddest phone call to the UK ever. About 1 mins in, I get played back the other's half of the conversation from the start, while the other stops hearing me.
