@loke @n8 People ask me how I can know every nook and crannie of git.

It's easy, anyone can do it. All you have to do is use it for 15 years, make every mistake, try to do every thing that ought to be possible and read all the man pages to figure those things out.

Self-hosting is easy in exactly the same way. There's is only a huge number of trivial issues to figure out and promptly forget that you once had to learn them for the first time.

Turns out there's a downloadable WP plugin for speakerstack.net that sends PDF to ConvertAPI and puts the returned jpgs per slide in a Slick slider to present them onscreen.

You might have heard that Conway's Game of Life is Turing complete.

But what most people who are familiar with the game don't know, is what that *truly* entails.

That it is possible to create Life ...within Life itself. â  â µ

Are there examples of where the Overton window / Trevino scale is used to rank existing theories/proposals on a topic? So as to better understand the spectrum of positions w.r.t. an idea, and how it is currently/historically perceived?

Jij?

A ban on #Encryption is a ban on any realistic expectation of online #security.

Even if you don't know what it means or how it works, guess what: you use it already, and all your security on the Internet is predicated on it: from your banking to your communications.

Do *not* let it be taken away.

I've been using Obsidian a little over 100 days now. So, with over three months of daily use it's good to review the experience. Part 1: system comes first, tools second.

Global Ethics Day: Ethics as a Practice (EaaP), a fun informal online meet-up with a call to treat ethics in tech as an individual professional practice, not merely a boundary defined by others.

I changed the batteries in our garden sensorkit. Apparantly the batteries stop providing enough power when they dip below 3.31V. New batteries installed, and I noted the date to see how long they will last. The batteries died late last month, but I didn't notice until last week.

google, privacy, e-mail, from :birdsite:

Google started editing people's e-mails in GSuite, replacing links with a link through google.com:
mobile.twitter.com/sneakdotber
twitter.com/tblodt/status/1317

This means that Google will track a click on a link *in e-mail* even if you're using an external client.

I am *guessing* this is under the pretext of phishing protection, but it actually *creates* additional phishing risk for text-only clients, since now all links are google.com links.

Data visceralisation: data visualization in virtual reality, so that people can better experience differences in data, understand them viscerally. Reminds me of 'tangible infographics', 3d printed statistics.
